Im Memory of the "First Lady of the Civil Rights Movement"

"In Loving Memory of Coretta Scott King"

Mrs. Coretta Scott King, the widow of slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr., passed away yesterday (1/31/06). She was the first lady of the civil rights movement and the most shining example of grace under fire that I’ve ever witnessed (even if I only witnessed it by viewing replayed footage). A lot of people forget that she too was a civil rights leader. Mrs. King was unwavering. She organized and stood beside her husband in conditions that, today, we would never even subject animals. The way she kept her husband’s legacy alive and fought for his national holiday and later the MLK National Memorial should be a point of notice to anyone who thinks she was "just" the wife of a famous man.

I just couldn’t let this occasion pass without saying how much I admired her spirit and her strength. Rest in peace Mrs. King, you changed the world!
